Dr. Salman Arain is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at the McGovern School of Medicine – University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Houston (UTHealth), where he also serves as the Program Director for the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship. He has extensive expertise in the interventional management of cardiovascular diseases, including coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial and venous disease, and the failing myocardium (e.g., cardiogenic shock and chronic heart failure). His areas of specialization include novel interventional treatments for coronary artery disease, complex coronary interventions (such as chronic total occlusions), critical limb ischemia (including limb salvage), percutaneous ventricular assist devices, and the treatment of pulmonary embolism. Dr. Arain’s research focuses on identifying risk factors for upper extremity critical limb ischemia, chronic total occlusion percutaneous coronary interventions (CTO PCI), evaluating coronary physiology in heart failure patients, and cardiac interventions in the elderly. He has served as principal investigator or co-investigator on several national and international studies in these areas.
