Dr. Carlos L. Alviar is a dual boarded critical care cardiologist who serves as assistant professor of Cardiology at New York University Grossman School of Medicine and as the director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and ECMO Program at Bellevue Hospital Center. He received his medical degree from CES University in Colombia and completed his residency and chief resident year at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital/Columbia University, followed by a fellowship in cardiology at NYU and then critical care medicine at the Cleveland Clinic, where he served as the inaugural fellow for the critical care cardiology tract under the mentorship of Dr. Venu Menon.
Dr. Alviar is a member of the leadership council of the ACC Critical Care Cardiology Section where he also serves as the chair of the international outreach working group and education and webinars working group. His academic work includes research endeavors in mechanical ventilation in the cardiovascular patient, cardiogenic shock, mechanical circulatory support and cardiac arrest. Dr. Alviar has published numerous manuscripts and book chapters and presented his work at numerous national and international meetings. He is passionate about research and education.
