Dr. Bindu Akkanti earned her medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. She completed her internal medicine internship at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, followed by residency at Boston University Medical Center. She then returned to BCM for a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine, serving as Chief Fellow, and later pursued bioinformatics-based lung cancer research.
Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, and critical care, Dr. Akkanti specializes in managing critically ill adults and treating conditions such as lung cancer, asthma, COPD, pulmonary hypertension, cystic fibrosis, and lung transplantation. Her research focuses on gene expression in critically ill patients and those with advanced lung diseases using bioinformatics.
Currently, Dr. Akkanti is an assistant professor of Critical Care at UTHealth Medical School. She is an active member of the Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute-TMC, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to care for adult heart failure patients with mechanical devices.
